Colonel Isaac Amponsah, the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) and personal security officer to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, collapsed during the President’s final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 3, 2025.
In a video sighted by Atinkanews, the President was busy reading his address when, suddenly, the military officer standing behind him slumped to the ground.
The cause of the incident remains unclear, but immediate action was taken as members of Parliament, security personnel, and other staff in Parliament rushed to assist.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, was seen quickly rushing to the aid of the unconscious Colonel Amponsah, who was then helped out of the chamber by other security personnel.
As the scene unfolded, President Akufo-Addo paused his address and watched as his bodyguard was attended to.
Colonel Amponsah, who has served as the President’s ADC since February 2023, replaced Major-General Bismark Onuonah. Before his appointment, Colonel Amponsah had held senior positions in the military, including Chief Instructor at the Military Training Academy and at the Defence Intelligence Unit.
GhanaWeb reports that the Colonel regained consciousness after the collapse and was escorted out of Parliament. More details about the incident are yet to be released.
