Ghanaian actress and TV presenter Nana Ama McBrown has finally broken her silence on the long-standing rumors that link her to the death of fellow actress Suzzy Williams.
For nearly two decades, whispers have swirled around McBrown, with some accusing her of being involved in Suzzy’s death.
Suzzy Williams, who tragically passed away in September 2005, was a massive star—think top of the charts, everywhere you looked, there was Suzzy!
McBrown, still making her way up in the entertainment world at the time, often found herself paired with Suzzy on set.
The two actresses shared the screen in a number of movies and shows, including the iconic Tentacles. But when Suzzy passed away, things took a bizarre turn.
Rumors began to fly that Nana Ama McBrown, somehow, had a hand in Suzzy’s untimely death, claiming that Suzzy’s success would have overshadowed McBrown’s rise to fame.
Some even accused McBrown of seeing Suzzy as competition and being responsible for her death.
In a recent interview on Onua Showtime, McBrown addressed these hurtful rumors for the first time, explaining that while Suzzy was a huge star, she never viewed her as competition.
“Suzzy was like a sister to me,” McBrown said, visibly emotional. “We were always paired together in films. I remember hearing about her death when I was in a Ford bus on my way home after returning from Italy. I was shocked, to say the least.”
She continued, “At the time, Suzzy was the star—she had the confidence and the fame in Accra. I was still climbing, but I never saw her as competition. I wasn’t wishing any harm on her.”
McBrown also recounted the moment she found out about Suzzy’s passing. “I called Kofi Adjorlolo, and he confirmed the news. He even told me he was at the mortuary with her body! People started talking about me and these crazy accusations… like I had something to do with it.”
Frustrated, McBrown addressed the rumors head-on. “If I’ve ever gone to a juju man, I challenge them to come forward and speak,” she said. “At that time, we didn’t even know what competition was! Suzzy was Ewe, and I’m Asante—how could I have done something like that to her?”
“It hurts. And people still accuse me to this day, but I leave it to God,” she concluded.
