“Embarrassing and silly”: Bridget Otoo blast minority MPs over vetting chaos

Media personality Bridget Otoo has voiced her strong disappointment over the chaos that erupted during the vetting of ministerial nominees in Ghana’s Parliament.

Otoo specifically criticized the actions of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs on the Appointments Committee after tensions flared over the vetting of some minister-designates.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on January 30, 2025, Bridget Otoo called out the “drama” between the two major parliamentary parties, labeling it embarrassing and uncalled for. She expressed concern that the incident had tarnished Ghana’s democracy.

“Omg. This is so embarrassing and very silly. It makes zero sense, protecting Parliament from parliamentarians?” Otoo said.

The media personality also took issue with the way the questioning of Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation-designate, Sam George, had been handled.

She criticized the lengthy questioning session, particularly the grilling of Sam George by Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin, calling it a display of “ego” rather than a productive dialogue.

Tensions escalated on January 30, 2025, during the vetting of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health-designate, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate.

The Majority MPs on the Appointments Committee insisted on continuing the vetting session beyond 10 PM, but the Minority strongly opposed it.

The clash led to a physical altercation between MPs, with some equipment being damaged during the scuffle.
