Misled Ghanaian woman in Iraq pleads for assistance to come back home (Video)

Juliet Dwumor, a Ghanaian woman currently stranded in Iraq, is urgently seeking assistance to return home.

In a heartfelt video she shared online, Juliet explained her difficult situation and the struggles she has faced since arriving in Baghdad.

Juliet, originally from Tanoso in the Ashanti Region, was lured to Iraq with the promise of a job as a hotel cleaner by an agent.

However, upon arrival, she discovered that the job offer was misleading. Instead of working in a hotel, Juliet was forced into domestic cleaning roles in private homes, despite her initial objections.

In her video, Juliet described how she was misled by the agent. “When I was coming to Baghdad in Iraq, the agent told me I was coming to work as a cleaner in a hotel. I accepted because I knew I could work as a hotel cleaner. I subsequently informed him that I did not want to work as a domestic cleaner and he assured me,” she said.

When Juliet arrived in Iraq, she was told there was no hotel cleaning job available. She was then given the choice to pay $3,000 plus the cost of her plane ticket if she wanted to return to Ghana.

Unable to afford this amount, Juliet found herself stranded and struggling in Baghdad. She described the harsh conditions she faced:

“I was taken to a house where I was maltreated so I ran to the office to complain. My employers angrily stormed the office to ask why I had left. I can no longer do the job and I even struggle to wake up from bed most times as I keep having sleepless nights.”

Crying in the video, Juliet called for urgent help from Ghanaians, saying, “I really need help to leave this place because I am suffering.”
