Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a controversial declaration regarding his approach to political debates.
In a recent JoyNews interview, Asiedu Nketia stated that he refuses to debate anyone he considers dishonest or not intelligent.
He put it plainly: “Don’t debate an idiot or a liar.” He explained that debating such people is a “worthless exercise” and not a good use of his time. According to him, debates with those he sees as lacking intellect or honesty don’t lead to meaningful results.

Asiedu Nketia specifically named Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as Napo, as examples of people he believes fall into these categories.
He stated that he doesn’t see these individuals as suitable debate partners because of their perceived dishonesty and lack of intellectual depth.
“It’s a worthless exercise, and we will not waste our time debating Bawumia or Napo. If you’ve followed my political career, you’ll know I avoid debating two types of people: those who are intellectually unqualified and those who are dishonest. They can insult me all they want, but that won’t change my stance. My principles are clear: don’t debate an idiot and don’t debate a liar. So, if either of these two tries to engage me in a debate, I will ignore them,” Asiedu Nketia said.
He further clarified that he believes Dr. Bawumia, in particular, fits his description of a liar. “I’m not saying both traits must apply to one person, but when you look at the categories, you’ll see that he is a liar. That’s something no one can contest. I’m not sure if he is an idiot, but I’m certain he is a liar,” Asiedu Nketia added.
