Leslie Van Houten Siblings – Leslie Van Houten, officially known as Leslie Louise Van Houten was born on August 23, 1949.
Born in Altadena, California, Van Houten is an American convicted murderer and former member of the Manson Family.
With the Manson group, she was known by various aliases such as Louella Alexandria, Leslie Marie Sankston, Linda Sue Owens, and Lulu.
Van Houten was arrested and charged in relation to the 1969 killings of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca hence convicted and sentenced to death.
However, the California Supreme Court decision on People v. Anderson then ruled in 1972 that the death penalty was unconstitutional.
With this ruling, Van Houten’s sentence was changed to life in prison. In a 1976 appellate court decision, her conviction was then overturned granting her a retrial.
Her retrial ended with a deadlocked jury and a mistrial. At her second retrial in 1978, she was convicted of first-degree murder (2 counts) and conspiracy to commit murder (1 count).
Following the second retrial, she was given a life sentence that entailed eligibility for parole, for which the prosecutor said she would one day be suitable.
In July 2023, Leslie Van Houten hit the headlines following a comment made by California governor, Gavin Newsom regarding her parole application.
On Friday, July 7, Newsom who blocked Van Houten’s efforts to secure parole five times disclosed that he won’t contest a California appellate court decision to allow her for parole
The governor of California, Newsom had until today, Monday, July 10 to file a challenge with the Supreme court.
