Andy Rourke Biography
Andy Rourke, officially known as Andrew Michael Rourke was an English musician.
Born on January 17, 1964, he developed a passion for music at a younger age and began learning the acoustic guitar (a gift from his parents) at the age of seven.
At the age of 11, he met young John Maher (Johnny Marr) with whom he shared an interest in music. The pair spent their lunch break playing on their guitars

Rourke and Marr then formed a band and the latter told Rourke to try the bass guitar, which he fell in love with and continued to play for the rest of his career.
Later, Marr linked up with Morrissey to form the Smiths. Rourke became a member of the band after their first gig and remained through most of its existence.
He was briefly sacked from the band due to a heroin addiction but returned to record what is regarded as the band’s finest album; The Queen Is Dead.
He was the bassist for the rock band and was best known for his melodic approach to bass playing. He played on all four of their studio albums
His fluid bass playing helped The Smiths soar from their roots in Manchester, England, to become an influential and beloved indie rock band
Rourke was consistent throughout his career rising through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after acts.
Throughout his career, he used a Fender Precision Bass, Squier Precision Bass, Fender Jazz Bass, and a Yamaha BB2000; for amplification.
He also used Peavey Mark III Head with Ampeg SVT cabinet and Trace Elliot GP-11. He played bass for a number of acts including; Sinead O’Connor, Ian Brown, Badly Drawn Boy, and Morrissey.
Sadly, the renowned bassist for the Smiths has died. Andy Rourke passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the age of 59.

According to reports, the multifaceted guitarist died from pancreatic cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City
The news of his demise was announced by guitarist Johnny Marr on social media, who wrote:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Rourke after a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer. Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul by those who knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music fans. We request privacy at this sad time.”
At the time of this report, the family was planning her final funeral arrangement and the details are yet to be finalized. We will keep you updated.

We can’t emphatically state whether the late bassist was a father or not. Apart from his professional life, Rourke kept his private life away from the spotlight hence there’s no information on whether he had biological or adopted children.
