John Motson was an English football commentator. Beginning as a television commentator with the BBC in 1971.
Motson worked for 50 years for the BBC and commentated on more than 2,500 games on television and radio, becoming one of the most recognisable voices in English football.

Motson, known for his trademark sheepskin coat and affectionately nicknamed “Motty”, covered 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals for the BBC before retiring from the broadcaster in 2018.
He was awarded an OBE in 2001 for services to broadcasting. Motty has sadly died at the age of 77, leaving his son and the footballing world to pay tribute .

Frederick Motson is the son of legendary football commentator, John Motson.
He has been a lecturer in law at the Open University since 2020.
He also works as a Central Law trainer and as a chief examiner for the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
He has written a wide range of academic papers regarding law, including contract law and law of tort.

Frederick was Motson’s only child.
Fred was born in 1986 and studied law at the University of Buckingham, before studying at The College of Law and University of Westminster.
