Angry Black Stars fans riot at Baba Yara Stadium after defeat to Angola (Video)

Tensions ran high at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday night as frustrated Black Stars fans turned to violence after Ghana’s unexpected 1-0 loss to Angola in their first match of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Angola secured a surprise victory with a dramatic last-minute goal from Milson, which handed them their first three points in the qualifiers.

This defeat ended Ghana’s impressive 24-year unbeaten record at their home ground, leaving fans in shock and disappointment.

Disappointed fans began to leave the stadium after the goal, frustrated by the Black Stars’ lackluster performance.

However, those who stayed behind soon became agitated, and their frustration quickly escalated.

Videos shared on social media show fans throwing water bottles onto the pitch and breaking onto the field, where they vandalized advertising panels and other stadium property.

The military and the police later restored order after they stormed the pitch in their numbers to disperse the irate fans.

Looking forward, the Black Stars will next travel to Morocco to face Niger, with hopes of recovering from their home defeat.

Ghana’s long wait for an AFCON title, which has stretched since their last win in 1982, continues as they aim to qualify for the tournament in Morocco and end their trophy drought.
