Veteran entertainment journalist and ABS-CBN reporter Mario Dumaual passed away on Wednesday, July 5. He was 64.

Dumaual was born on July 31, 1959 and was an entertainment writer before shifting to TV reporting. He is survived by his wife Cherie and four children.
His sudden demise came a month after he suffered a heart attack, which put him in critical care. According to a statement on his Facebook page, Mario died of septic shock.
Three weeks prior, Mario’s son, Jose Miguel Dumaual ,requested prayers from the public when his father was admitted to the ICU after a heart attack.
In a statement on Mario’s Facebook account, the family announced his passing and expressed their devastation. The statement revealed that Mario, who would have turned 65 on July 31, died at 8:01 a.m. on July 5 due to septic shock.
He had been battling a severe fungal infection, a complication during his recovery from the heart attack. The statement also mentioned that Mario had been hospitalized at the Philippine Heart Center for a month. The family plans to share details of his wake in the coming days.
“Mario Dumaual—Papa to his wife Cherie and children Luigi, Miguel, Maxine, William, and Thessa; Wowo to his grandchildren Sky, Alonzoe, and Tali; and Yayo to his siblings,” the statement begins.
“Mario, who would have turned 65 on July 31, died at 8:01 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5 due to septic shock. He had been battling a severe fungal infection, a complication during his recovery from a heart attack. He was confined for a month at the Philippine Heart Center,” the statement continues.
“Our family will share details of Papa’s wake in the coming days,” the statement ends.
Personalities from the entertainment industry also mourned the death of Dumaual and expressed their condolences.
“We’re all praying for the healing of one of the most passionate people in the ABS-CBN Newsroom, my dear friend Mario Dumaual. Every kind of help will go a long way. We trust in the Lord’s grace and blessings that He will heal our dearest Mario,” posted ABS-CBN anchor Jing Casteneda.

“Rest in peace, Sir Mario Dumaual. You were always present in all my career milestones. Rest now,” Jed Madela said.
