Xavier López Rodríguez known professionally as “Chabelo”, was a Mexican actor, comedian, television presenter and children’s music singer.

Who was Chabelo?

Xavier Lopez was born on 17 February 1935, in Chicago, Illinois before the family moved back to Mexico, settling in the city of León. During the Korean War, Lopez was drafted into the US Army, serving on a military base in California before returning to Mexico.

After returning from his service, Lopez began studying medicine with the hope of working as a doctor. While studying, he began working for the Mexican television channel Televisa as an assistant and occasionally filled in for other actors, leading to him landing the creation of Chabelo.

In addition to his television career, Chab℮lo appeared in more than thirty motion pictures and recorded more than thirty musical albums. He produced shows including La Cuchufleta, La Güereja Quiere Más and En Familia con Chabelo, the latter of which was broadcast every Sunday morning on Televisa’s Canal de las Estrellas.

It aired for 47 years and consisted of contests with people from the audience, gifts and games and was mainly for children. The program ended on Sunday, December 20, 2015.

Actor, comedian and producer, Chabelo no longer alive. Xavier López Rodríguez died on Saturday, his family announced on his official Twitter account. He was 88.

“This is a very sad morning, Xavier Lopez Chab℮lo, father, brother, and husband, has left us suddenly due to abdominal complications,” the message reads.

“Chab℮lo,” considered the “friend of all children,” had a long career on Mexican television for more than seven decades. He starred in some 30 films and worked on countless TV shows.

“With a broken soul and knowing that many people have loved him for many years and that they will feel his loss, we ask you to pray for his rest and allow us to mourn peacefully the grief that overwhelms our entire family,” the family said.

Who was Chabelo Wife?

Was Chabelo married? Chebelo was married twice. The TV star was first married to the late Mexican actress Angelita Castany, who was born in Cuba.

In 1969, he wed Teresita Miranda, and the pair were together until the time of his death.

According to Famous Birthdays, the pair had three kids together, including sons Óscar, Javier, and Juan Gabriel.
