David Soul was an American-British actor and singer who died on January 4, 2024 .
David was known for his role as Detective Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson in the television series Starsky & Hutch from 1975 to 1979; Joshua Bolt on Here Come the Brides from 1968 to 1970; and Officer John Davis in Magnum Force in 1973.
As a singer, he scored one US hit and five UK hits with songs such as “Don’t Give Up on Us” (No. 1 in US, Canada, and UK) in 1976 and “Silver Lady” (No. 1 in UK) in 1977. He also starred in the 1979 hit TV movie adaptation Salem’s Lot by Stephen King.

Soul was born David Richard Solberg in Chicago on 28 August 1943 and spent his childhood between South Dakota and post-Second World War Berlin.
He acted in Star Trek in 1967, and Johnny Got His Gun in 1971.
He got his break as officer John Davis in Clint Eastwood’s police movie Magnum Force, which led to a part in Starsky & Hutch.
At the height of his fame in 1977, Soul also had success as a singer, twice reaching number one in the UK charts with his songs Don’t Give Up on Us and Silver Lady.
Soul, who was a dual US and UK citizen, had lived in Britain for many years, and performed in several stage roles.
In 2001, he won a libel case against a Mirror journalist who called The Dead Monkey, a play that Soul was in, the worst production he had ever seen – without having seen it.
Soul also played the titular talk show host in Jerry Springer – The Opera in London’s West End.

David Soul was married to Helen Snell at the time of his death. They had been married since June 26, 2010. It is worth noting that Helen Snell was not the sole woman he married. In fact, he has been married a total of five times.
His first marriage was to the talented actress Mirriam “Mim” Solberg (née Russeth) in 1964, but unfortunately, it only lasted a year. Following this, Soul tied the knot with actress Karen Carlson in 1968, but their union came to an end in 1977.
In 1980, he found love again and married Patti Carnel Sherman, who was previously married to Bobby Sherman. Then, in 1987, Soul entered into matrimony with actress Julia Nickson. Finally, in June 2010, he married his fifth wife, Helen Snell.

“His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.”
