Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a formal apology to Charlotte Osei, the former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).
The apology comes in response to accusations and legal threats following Otchere-Darko’s incorrect claims that Osei had purchased state land.
On September 12, 2024, Otchere-Darko took to social media to set the record straight. He admitted that his previous statements, which suggested that Osei acquired land from the state, were inaccurate.

According to Otchere-Darko, Osei’s property, situated near the Asaase building, was actually bought through a private deal from an individual named Berchie in 2007.
Otchere-Darko’s apology read: “I’ve received a private message from Mrs. @char_osei clarifying that her land, which is close to the Asaase building, was purchased privately, like the property occupied by Asaase, from a private person, Berchie, back in 2007. Apologies for any reference erroneously attributed to her and retraction of the same.”
The issue came to light when Charlotte Osei criticized Otchere-Darko for involving her in a dispute with North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Otchere-Darko had previously claimed that Ablakwa was overlooking properties sold by the government, including one opposite Asaase Radio, which he alleged was acquired by Charlotte Osei after a public servant was displaced.
In response, Osei refuted these claims in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on September 11, 2024. She emphasized that her property purchase was entirely legitimate and predates her appointment as EC Chair.
Osei also challenged Otchere-Darko to correct the misinformation and warned of potential legal action if the inaccuracies were not addressed.
