No country works 24 hours; Even God who created the world sleeps at night – NAPO

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as NAPO, just threw some major shade at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and their 24-hour economy policy.

At a recent rally in Accra, NAPO didn’t hold back. He boldly declared, “It is not possible, there is no country in the world that works 24 hours. Even God who created the world sleeps at night.”

His comment, though memorable, seems to reflect a limited understanding of how modern economies operate, particularly in metropolitan areas where 24-hour services are already commonplace.

Many global cities, including New York, London, and Tokyo, operate on a 24-hour basis in various sectors such as hospitality and transportation.

The assertion that no country operates around the clock overlooks these practical examples and may suggest a gap in NAPO’s awareness of international economic practices.

In addition to his critique of the 24-hour economy proposal, NAPO also defended his running mate, Dr. Bawumia, against claims from the opposition that experience alone guarantees effective leadership.

He argued that while Bawumia may be seen as a “mate,” he possesses the potential to lead more effectively than former President John Mahama.

NAPO further suggested that experience does not always correlate with competence, noting that some experienced leaders may fall short of expectations.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s statement is in response to a call by John Mahama to Ghanaians to vote for an experienced leader in the 2024 general elections.
