John Dumelo apologises for his allegations against Lydia Alhassan over her husband’s death

John Dumelo, NDC candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has publicly apologised for making serious allegations against Lydia Alhassan, the NPP MP for the same constituency.

Dumelo’s comments, which suggested that Lydia Alhassan might have been involved in her husband’s death to secure her position, have sparked a significant backlash.

The issue began during a segment on TV3’s community watch programme. While Dumelo was speaking, NPP supporters began chanting about the V8 saga.

In response to the chants, John Dumelo made a statement that has since been widely criticized.

He said, “I want to say something. I can see their supporters have been mentioning V8, V8, V8. If that is the case, then it is also fair to say that maybe Lydia is the one who killed her husband to become MP. That is it because if they want to go that tangent, I can also go the same tangent. If they want to go that tangent, I will go the same tangent because this time around, it is boot for boot.”

His remarks quickly drew criticism from social media users, especially on X (formerly known as Twitter). Many people found his comments to be inappropriate and hurtful, given the serious nature of the allegations and the sensitive topic of her husband’s death.

In response to the growing criticism, John Dumelo took to social media to issue an apology. He wrote, “I apologise and retract the comments I made earlier today on TV3.”
