Lost while hiking: Actor Julian Sands is missing

British actor Julian Sands, known from films like “A Room With a View” , has been missing since a hike in a mountainous region in the US state of California .

The 65-year-old left northeast of Los Angeles for a trip to the Mount Baldy area last Friday and did not return, the sheriff’s office in the San Bernardino district said on Wednesday (local time), according to media reports. A search operation was therefore canceled due to the weather.

Because of bad weather and the risk of avalanches, the rescue teams used to search for Sands had to pass for the time being, spokeswoman Gloria Huerta told CNN.Drones are currently being used in the search.

Hike to Mount Baldy very dangerous at this time.

California has been hit by severe winter storms for weeks with snow, landslides, mudslides and flooding. The Sheriff’s Office recently warned against hiking Mount Baldy.

The mountain is officially called Mount San Antonio, belongs to the San Gabriel mountain range and is almost 3,070 meters high.

“The conditions are adverse and extremely dangerous. Because of the strong winds, the snow has turned to ice, making hiking extremely dangerous,” said a Facebook post. Two hikers have died in the area after falls in the past few weeks.

Julian Sands  lives near Hollywood and, according to media reports, is an avid mountain hiker.

In his decades-long career, he has appeared in numerous other films and series, such as “Naked Lunch” , “Warlock” , “Snakehead” , “The Killing Fields” , “Leaving Las Vegas “, “Arachnophobia” , “Smallville” , “24” or more recently “What/If” .
