Memphis Police responded to a shots fired call outside a Kroger gas station in Hickory Hill Sunday shortly after noon and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
MPD says the man was pronounced dead on the scene.. . Police say surveillance footage shows the suspect driving northbound on Riverdale after the shooting.
Preliminary information indicates the suspect escaped the scene in a dark-colored sports car. Sunday night, MPD released pictures of the car.

In a statement, Kroger’s spokesperson Sheleah Harris said, “At Kroger, safety is our top priority for customers and associates. We are working with the local police department to help with this ongoing investigation.”
No suspects have been detained at this time, and police are now actively investigating… Meanwhile, local businesses like LYE Academy are on high alert.
“You mean to tell me that we’re not safe at our own home to just dance and work on stuff because Memphis has so much senseless crime, it’s sickening,” said Ladia Yates with LYE Academy. “I’m a little sick to my stomach, like, I’m rattled.”
According to Memphis Police, with this shooting, there have been at least 222 homicides, which is less than the same time last year.

Feet away from where the man was killed today, a memorial sits outside of LYE Academy in honor of a former staff member who also died due to gun violence.
“It’s almost a year, and that’s been on my mind, just to pull up and see this just triggering. It’s bringing back so many bad memories,” Yates said.
