Sashaya Bloomfield – A woman who lost all four limbs and burnt 90% of her body in a house fire is determined to show others that you can be “sɛxy no matter what you look like.”
Working as a sales associate and loved up with her boyfriend Stephan, life for Sashaya, 33, was good. Then in May last year, a fire broke out in her apartment block as she slept.

Sashaya Bloomfield was raced to hospital, where medics placed her in a coma. As well as severe burns to the majority of her body, she also developed a dangerous infection – meaning doctors had to amputate all four of her limbs in order to save her life.
She said: “I don’t remember much about the fire itself. I was in a coma for four months. When I woke up, I remember screaming to the nurses asking what happened to my arms and legs. I didn’t recognise myself.”
To make things even more difficult, due to COVID restrictions, Sashaya was unable to have many visitors. Eventually, she left hospital and was transferred to a rehabilitation unit, where she underwent extensive speech, physical and occupational therapy.

“I had to learn to do everyday tasks – brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed – all over again,” she added. On a whim, Sashaya Bloomfield decided to begin documenting her recovery on TikTok – and was stunned by the outpouring of support she received. “My biggest video has 13 million views,” she said.
“I never expected any of this, but I want to encourage other burns survivors and show them that they aren’t alone.” Now, Sashaya Bloomfield continues to share her life online – everything from workout videos to fun dances. She concluded: ”
The past year taught me that I’m strong. I want to show people that you can be confident and sɛxy no matter what you look like.”
