The officials led by the newly appointed Kenya Water Towers Agency boss Julius Malombe had visited the tissue making plant to establish whether or not they had followed required guidelines.

Drama ensued when police raided the premises and demanded the owner be handcuffed but the Chinese national stood his ground and even attempted to snatch police officer’s rifle.

A viral video seen by TUKO.co.ke on Friday, May 10, showed the man whose identity could not be immediately established, unsuccessfully grabbed the gun barrel.

A translator said he was daring the police to kill him claiming he was a clean man but blamed heavy rain in the area of washing industrial wastes from his site into the nearby river.

Though he was finally arrested and was set to be arraigned, he maintained innocence.

Malombe vowed to arrest anyone discharging raw wastes into the rivers.

This company manufactures tissue papers discharges wastes and chemicals into the river. We have arrested its owner. He does not have a registration certificate or any other document for that matter,” he said.

In the meantime, the factory remains closed indefinitely.
