General Hospital star Tyler Christopher has died at the age of 50.
Christopher’s manager, Chi Muoi Lo, confirmed the actor’s death in a statement to USA TODAY on Tuesday.
“This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss. He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much,” the statement read.
Who was Tyler Christopher?
Tyler Christopher is an American actor who is best known for his long-term association with the popular soap opera, ‘General Hospital.
Born in Illinois and raised in Ohio, Tyler grew up playing sports. His love for acting was not evident till his late teens.
Following his graduation from ‘Ohio Wesleyan University,’ he moved to Los Angeles to start a career in acting, but the initial struggle made him give up on acting for some time.
In 1996, he moved back and bagged the role of ‘Nikolas Cassadine,’ his debut role, in the hit American soap opera ‘General Hospital.
Soon, he became one of the most famous cast members of the show and continued playing the role for around two decades.
He also continued to star in guest roles in many series such as ‘The Division,’ ‘Into the West,’ and ‘Boomtown.
Of late, he has been seen playing key roles in the soap operas ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘The Lying Game.
He has won several awards and nominations for his performance in ‘General Hospital.
Tyler Christopher death cause
Christopher passed away in San Diego on October 31, 2023, due to a cardiac event.
Christopher’s former GH costar Maurice Benard said on Instagram Tuesday:
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher,” he wrote. “Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.”
Benard continued, “Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him.”
Benard also noted that “Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”
