It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the death of South African rapper, AKA. The talented artist was tragically gunned down in a drive-by shooting outside of a restaurant, making him one of two casualties from the fatal attack.

Who Was Rapper AKA?
Born in 1988 in Cape Town, South Africa, AKA real name Kiernan had been in the industry for more than a decade. According to Discogs.com, he kick-started his career by being a part of a group called Entity with two other members, but he’s believed to have gone solo later.
AKA’s music came to be known to a wider audience through his single, Victory Lap, from his debut studio album, Alter Ego, in 2010. Over the years, he released many albums.
Forbes began dating producer DJ Zinhle at the end of 2014. After receiving several South African Hip Hop Awards accolades, Zinhle hinted at their relationship by tweeting “Congratulations to my winner”.
The couple have a daughter named Kairo Olwethu Forbes, born in 2015. In August 2015, AKA Forbes and Zinhle split after it was revealed that Forbes allegedly cheated on Zinhle with television presenter Bonang Matheba. As Forbes and Matheba denied the allegations, they declared as they revealed their relationship in 2016. Forbes and Matheba broke up in December 2017. However, Forbes and Zinhle got back together in late 2018, although later in 2019 they broke up again.
On 21 February 2021, Forbes posted a picture on Instagram announcing his engagement to girlfriend Nelli Tembe on 11 April 2021, Tembe died after a fall from a hotel in Cape Town.
On 10 February 2023, Forbes was shot and killed at a popular night spot on Florida Road in Durban. According to a witness at the scene, Forbes was shot while standing on the pavement when gunfire rang out shortly after 10.00 p.m.

How Did rapper AKA die?
Popular South African rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes known as AKA is reported to have been shot multiple times whiles out on a street. According to reports, the 35-year-old rapper was shot at Florida Road in Durban, South Africa at about 8 pm on Friday, 10 February 2023.
AKA Funeral and Memorial service
The funeral details are as follows: “Kiernan will be laid to rest in a private provincial funeral on Saturday, 18 February 2023.”
His memorial service will take place on Friday, 17 February at the Sandton Convention Centre at 3PM. Those who wish to attend can do so by purchasing tickets at Web tickets however they will be limited.
