Arleen Sorkin, the original voice of DC animated character Harley Quinn and Days of Our Lives actress, has died. She was 67.

The saddening news was first reported by voice actor, Neil Kaplan, via Twitter on Saturday as he paid a heartbreaking tribute to the late star.

The news of her death comes after The Price Is Right star Bob Barker also passed on Saturday at the age of 99.

Who was Arleen Sorkin?

Arleen Sorkin was an American actress, screenwriter, television presenter and comedian.

Sorkin was born on October 14, 1995 in Washington D.C. and began her long-lasting and successful career in the entertainment industry in the late 1970s by joining a cabaret in a comedic group called The High-Heeled Women.

She is known for portraying Calliope Jones on the NBC daytime serial Days of Our Lives and for serving as the real-life inspiration and voice for DC Comics villain Harley Quinn.

Harley Quinn

The character of Harley Quinn was created by Arleen’s college friend, Paul Dini, and was inspired by Sorkin herself.

Along with portraying the villain on Batman: The Animated Series, the star also took on the role of Harley on other animated shows such as The New Batman Adventures (1997-1999) and also Justice League (2003).

Along with working in the world of animation, the star also portrayed the character of Calliope Jones in the hit NBC soap opera, Days Of Our Lives. She made appearances on the show on and off from 1984 through 2010.

She received four Soap Opera Digest Awards for her performance as well as two Daytime Emmy Award nominations in 1988 and also 1989.

Other acting credits include the Fox series, Duet, where she played the role of Geneva from 1987 to 1989. She also took on co-hosting duties on America’s Funniest People from 1990 until 1992.

Arleen Sorkin died on August 24, 2023, at the age of 67.

The saddening news was first reported by voice actor, Neil Kaplan, via Twitter on Saturday as he paid a heartbreaking tribute to the late star.

Neil typed out, ‘It broke my heart to hear… the original voice of Harley Quinn, Arlene Sorkin has passed away. I adored her work as HQ & as Calliope in “Days of Our Lives.”‘

He added a throwback photo of Sorkin as well as an animated photo of the iconic Harley Quinn character.

Arleen is survived by her husband and television producer, Christopher Lloyd, whom she tied the knot with in 1995. The couple welcomed two sons, Eli and Owen, during the course of their marriage.

Lloyd notably was a producer on the hit sitcom series, Frasier, and Arleen made an onscreen appearance as a monkey owner in the final episode.

Her cause of death has not yet been released.

A representative for Sorkin’s husband, “Modern Family” co-creator and “Frasier” producer, Christopher Lloyd, confirmed her death to Fox News Digital.

Director James Gunn shared a heartfelt tribute to Sorkin on Instagram.

“Rest in Peace, Arleen Sorkin, the incredibly talented original voice of Harley Quinn, who helped to create the character so many of us love. Love to her family and friends,” he wrote.

Mark Hamill, who worked with Sorkin as the Joker on the “Batman” series, posted fond memories of Arleen on X, formerly known as Twitter.
