AKA Funeral — Today on Saturday, 18 February 2023 marks the official but private funeral ceremony of Top South African rapper, Kiernan Jarryd “AKA” Forbes.
The rapper died at the age of 35 after being assassinated on Friday, 11 February 2023 when exiting the Wish restaurant in Durban.
An assassination which also claimed his former manager and friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane. While the official statement of the memorial service and funeral procession did detail the dates and time for the memorial service, it did not reveal the time for the funeral procession.

But as visuals of the rapper AKA’s convoy to his final resting place has surfaced, it seems that the funeral started at 10:00 in the morning.
Rapper AKA finally laid to rest
Visuals of AKA’s friends, family and team were shared as they convoyed to the rapper’s final resting place. However, given that the funeral is private there have not been visuals of the entire convoy arriving there or the events that took place.
They continue the outpouring from yesterday’s memorial service which was filled with touching moments. The memorial was filled with notable ZAlebs like Jr., Khuli Chana, Sizwe Dhomo, and Don Design. Nut one moment in particular was Yanga Chief’s eulogy. He touched not only the present audience but viewers watching the livestream, which was reported as:
Without a doubt rapper Yanga Chief and Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes were best of friends and that showed in his speech at the memorial services. Yanga Chief moved scores of people after sharing some of AKA’s memories.
Yanga Chief’s speech most definitely resonated with the room as he shared some of fondest memories with AKA over time. An emotional Yanga Chief did not hold back to show pain, weakness and vulnerable as a proper send off to his best friend.
What really moved the masses was the conversation they once had about his relationship with Nadia Nakai. Although both AKA and Nadia Nakai have only been dating for a long minute but their love story was very inspiring to scores of their fans and followers.

“To Nadia, the first time I asked Kiernan how was your relationship going, he did not hesitate to tell me “bra this is it for me, Nadia saved my life” I thank you for loving my bru and bringing back to him after we thought we have lost him the first time. He loved your so much” said Yanga Chief
Yanga Chief proceeded to ask the room to bow their heads to share a prayer to lift up Kiernan Forbes spirit to the Almighty. Event though he admitted that as a Xhosa man he doesn’t show emotion most of the time, but around AKA he could be himself. Yanga Chief added AKA broke down all those walls for them to be their authentic self around each other.
