Rema addresses ‘craziest rumor’ about him: ‘They say I worship the devil’ (Video)

Famous Nigerian artist Rema, born Divine Ikubor, has recently tackled some wild rumors circulating about him—specifically, the claim that he worships the devil.

During a candid conversation on the Kids Take Over podcast, Rema described this allegation as the “craziest thing” he has ever heard about himself.

He speculated that these rumors might have originated from the visually striking imagery in his music videos and performances.

Rema emphasized that the colorful aesthetics are purely artistic choices, not indications of any sinister beliefs.

“The craziest thing I’ve seen online about me is that I worship the devil; they say I worship the devil,” he said, shaking his head in disbelief.

In his explanation, he pointed out that the recent “rabbid phase” in his work, which prominently features the color red, has been misunderstood. He argued that colors can evoke different feelings and should not be misinterpreted.

“If you see a beautiful lady in a red dress, you won’t call her the devil, so why are you calling me the devil?” he questioned.

Rema also spoke about the influence of his Edo culture on his music and visuals.

He expressed frustration that people often label his cultural elements as “devilish” simply because they don’t understand them.

“My culture, the Edo culture, is not one that the world has been familiar with,” he explained. “It has not had a lot of ambassadors and is not one of the popular traditions in the diaspora.”
