Tragedy struck O’Reilly Senior High School on Monday, September 2, when an 18-year-old student was stabbed to death by a fellow student. The victim, Edward Borketey Sackey, was a final-year student in the General Arts Department.
The fatal altercation took place on campus shortly after Edward completed an exam. Reports indicate that a fight broke out between Edward and Godwin, a student from the Visual Arts Department.
The argument, which initially seemed minor, quickly escalated into violence, leading to Edward being stabbed three times in the chest.

Edward’s cousin, who was present, described the scene and the nature of the dispute. She explained that the fight was sparked by an argument over who was richer.
“We heard some noise at the back and asked what was going on. They told us it was Godwin and Edward fighting. I asked what the fight was about, and they said it was nothing serious,” she said.
The cousin further detailed that the disagreement was about material possessions, which seemed trivial but led to a fatal outcome.
“It was about who had what and who was lying. I didn’t realize it would turn into something so serious,” she added.

The situation escalated, with Edward being stabbed and sustaining serious injuries as teachers failed to intervene despite the severity of the fight.
In an attempt to save Edward’s life, a group of students quickly left the school to find a taxi to take him to the hospital.
Sadly, Edward passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. The school has not yet addressed the incident.
