Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s running mate for the 2024 general elections, praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government as the best in Ghana’s 67 years of independence.
During his unveiling as the running mate for the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in Kumasi on Tuesday, Dr. Opoku Prempeh aka Napo asserted that no president, including the revered Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has developed Ghana like President Akufo-Addo.
“It has never happened in the history of Ghana. If President Akufo-Addo retires, I can hit my chest and state that since the nation’s inception in 1957, there has not been a president who has helped the state more than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“I am saying that from 1957 to now, whether you pick ‘your’ Kwame Nkrumah… there is nobody who has led Ghana and protected the country or developed Ghana more than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he stated.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, was recently nominated by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling NPP, as his running mate, a choice which received the unanimous endorsement of the party’s National Executive Council.
Speaking at the unveiling event in Kumasi, President Nana Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in the Bawumia-NAPO ticket, while the party’s flagbearer justified his choice of the current Manhyia South Member of Parliament and Minister for Energy as his running mate.
Various speakers, including the party’s national and regional officers and former flagbearer contenders, spoke at the event. They also expressed confidence in the party’s ability to win the upcoming election, especially against the main opposition, the National Democratic Congress.
