George Osborne Biography
George Osborne parent – George Osborne, born on May 23, 1971, officially known as George Gideon Oliver Osborne is a former British politician and newspaper editor.
George Osborne worked as a freelancer for The Daily Telegraph and later joined the Conservative Research Department in 1994 becoming head of its political section.
He then became a special adviser to Douglas Hogg, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and also worked as part of Jonh Major’s unsuccessful 1997 general election campaign.
As a member of the Conservative Party, in 2001 he was elected as MP for Tatton, becoming the youngest Conservative member of the House of Commons.
Osborne served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tatton from 2001 to 2017. Whiles an MP, in 2004, he was appointed Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury by Conservative leader, Michael Howard.
Subsequently, Osborne ran David Cameron’s successful party leadership campaign and was appointed Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer.
After the 2010 general election, Osborne was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Cameron–Clegg coalition
Osborne served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2010 to 2016 and following the Conservative’s overall majority win in the 2015 general election, Cameron reappointed him Chancellor.
In Cameron’s second government, apart from Osborne being a Chancellor, Cameron also gave him the additional title of First Secretary of State.
With Cameron’s additional title, Osborne became the First Secretary of State from 2015 to 2016 in the Cameron government.
After the 2016 referendum vote to leave the European Union and Cameron’s consequent resignation, he was dismissed by Theresa May.
George Osborne has been chair of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP) since 2016 and of the British Museum since 2021.
From 2017 to 2020, he was editor of the Evening Standard. In June 2023, Osborne hit the headlines when it was disclosed that he was among those giving evidence to the COVID inquiry.
On Tuesday, June 20, following the Covid inquiry, the former Chancellor disclosed that the Treasury had not planned for lockdown.
George Osborne added that spending cuts under his tenure meant the UK was better able to cope with the financial pressures of the pandemic

He was born in Paddington, London, United Kingdom to his parents; Sir Peter Osborne, 17th Baronet (father), and Felicity Alexandra Loxton-Peacock (mother).
His father is a British businessman, who co-founded the interior design firm Osborne & Little while his mother is the daughter of renowned Hungarian-born Jewish artist, Clarisse Loxton-Peacock
