He was born on December 18, 1986, in Islamabad, Pakistan, and moved to Australia with his family at the age of 5. He made his first-class cricket debut for New South Wales in 2008 and played his first international match for Australia in January 2011.

He made his debut for New South Wales in 2008 and his first international match for Australia in January 2011. He has led Sydney Thunder since 2011 and competed in the Big Bash League, finishing second in BBL05 with 345 runs and an average of 172.50.
