Rapper Kevin Gates has shocked fans after posting a graphic video of a woman giving birth on his Instagram story.
The 37-year-old, whose real name is Kevin Jerome Gilyard, shared the video of a stranger’s natural home birth with his 10.9million Instagram followers on Sunday.

Kevin Gates has been married to his Dreka Haynes since 2015 and the couple shares two children together. Some reports have claimed the woman in the video is his wife, but that’s not true.

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, the rapper shared the brief video of a woman birthing a child on his Instagram story with the text: “The Most Beautiful thing on earth is the gift of Life.”
Naturally, many thought the rapper was sharing the experience of his youngest child’s birth to celebrate the joy of life, but the woman in the video isn’t Dreka.
The video was first posted on the Instagram account @indiebirth on April 15 and the caption identifies the woman in the video as someone other than Kevin’s wife, who wanted to share her “amazing birth experience” in “celebration of Black maternal health week.”
The video depicting the natural process aims to bring more awareness to maternal health from the point of view of a “doula, student midwife, mother, and woman”, who is passionate about bringing joy and autonomy back to birth!.”

Video leaves users emotional with the right message
As opposed to some critics’ opinion that the clip is unsettling, many have praised the Instagram user for sharing her childbirth experience with the world as it is educating as well as empowering.
One user shared: “Wow! This was so beautiful. I am in tears watching this. The way the midwife guided mom back to her instincts to help baby breathe on his own! We need more providers like this this made my day”
“The most incredible birthing I have ever seen. Brought tears to my eye,” said another.
A third person said: “This is so beautiful! What a wholesome example of what birth should be. The queen in all her glory, trusting her body and her instincts.”

Rapper and wife share two children together
Kevin Gates and Dreka Gates are parents to their children Khaza and Islah – with the latter’s name also being the title of his debut album.
The couple is said to have met in 2004 and they have been married for almost eight years. The rapper has publicly admired his wife and her role in shaping his life.
He released a song named after his wife, Dreka, in 2020 and in the same year, speaking of the mother of his children, Kevin said: “Without a strong woman in your corner, a man lacks stability.”
As for his children, the rapper prefers to remain lowkey. He shared in a 2013 interview: “I got some children. I’m real close with them. I lay in the bed with them, hold them, love on them.
“It really doesn’t make sense to say [how many kids I have]. Not in a bad way, but it’s not like the public will ever get to see my children, and if they do see them, they aren’t going to know they’re mine.”
