Lewis Capaldi is a musician and singer-songwriter from Scotland.
In March 2019, his single “Someone You Loved” topped the UK Singles Chart for seven weeks, and in November 2019, it hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100; it was nominated for Song of the Year at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, and it won the 2020 Brit Award for Song of the Year.

Lewis Capaldi was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised there until the age of four. Capaldi’s ancestors are Scottish, Irish, and Italian.
He is the fourth and youngest of four children. His birth surprised his family because his father had a vasectomy.
Lewis Capaldi’s passion for performing began when he sang on stage at the age of four during a family vacation in France. He began playing the guitar when he was nine years old.
Soon after, he began writing songs and sneaking into pubs with the help of his eldest brother to play gigs.
Capaldi took part in a three-date tour in 2014 as part of The Scottish Music Centre’s Hit the Road project. He performed in Dumfries, Edinburgh, and Fort William with Jacob, Rory Green, and Zoë Bestel.
Ryan Walter, his manager, discovered him when he was 18 through an iPhone recording he made in his bedroom and uploaded to his SoundCloud account.
Walter flew from America to Britain the day after contacting Capaldi for the first time. Capaldi earned an HND in Music from New College Lanarkshire in Motherwell in 2016.
He released his first solo single, “Bruises,” on March 31, 2017. The song quickly surpassed 28 million Spotify plays, making him the fastest unsigned artist to reach 25 million Spotify plays.

Breach’s “Someone You Loved” became Capaldi’s breakthrough single, charting in 29 countries. The song peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart during his 2019 tour with Bastille and stayed there for seven weeks.
It also made him the first Scottish solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 s ince Sheena Easton in 1981. At the Grammys, the song was nominated for Song of the Year.
Capaldi announced in March 2021 that he would be postponing all of his upcoming shows in order to work on his sophomore album. In June, it was announced that a documentary about Capaldi’s career had been made.
He returned in the summer of 2022 to play his postponed shows, including headlining slots at TRNSMT, Latitude, and the Isle of Wight Festival.
His second album’s lead single, “Forget Me,” was released in September 2022 and became his first song to debut at the top of the UK Singles Chart.
That same month, he debuted his Big Sexy Pizza frozen pizza line. Capaldi announced his new album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, in October.
His eldest brother introduced Lewis Capaldi to heavy metal bands such as Slipnot and Avenged Sevenfold, and he later developed his own musical tastes by listening to pop-punk bands such as Blink-182 and Busted, as well as indie rock bands such as Oasis and the View.
He became interested in “soulful pop music” after hearing the work of Paolo Nutini and Joe Cocker.
