Jen Shah rose to fame as a member of The Housewives of Salt Lake City cast.
She was sentenced to six and a half years behind bars in January 2023, and now fans want to know why she was on trial.
Why was Jen Shah on trial?
Jen Shah’s legal problems date back to March 2021 when she was arrested on charges of fraud and money laundering.
At the time, she had been accused of running a telemarketing scam that targeted hundreds of elderly people nationwide alongside multiple accomplices.

In April 2021, Shah pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering charges. However, she changed her plea the following year.
In July 2022, she plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud as part of an agreement with federal prosecutors, according to NBC News.
She also agreed to forfeit $6.5million and pay restitution up to $9.5million.
In court, Shah said she “knew it was wrong, many people were harmed and I’m so sorry.”
“Ms. Shah is a good woman who crossed a line. She accepts full responsibility for her actions and deeply apologizes to all who have been harmed,” Shah’s attorney, Priya Chaudhry told NBC News in a statement.
“Ms. Shah is also sorry for disappointing her husband, children, family, friends, and supporters.”

Her former assistant, Stuart Smith, previously pleaded guilty in November 2021 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing, one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, and one count of obstructing an official proceeding.
Who is Jen Shah’s husband?
Since 1994, Shah has been married to former NFL player Sharrieff Shah Sr.
After he retired, he turned to coaching and is now the special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach at the University of Utah.
While Sharrieff’s wife might have found herself behind bars, he and their kids were seen supporting her at her sentencing.
“Jen has never been arrested or detained for any crime. My wife’s current legal predicament was caused by a confluence of events that came together at various points, which caused her to spiral out of control,” Sharrieff wrote in a letter that was read in court, according to Yahoo! Entertainment.
He added that previous marital issues ultimately caused Shah to make “catastrophically bad business decisions and develop relationships with awful people.”
Since tying the knot, Shah and her husband have welcomed two sons, Sharrieff Shah Jr, and Omar Shah.

What is Jen Shah’s net worth?
Due to Shah’s successful career on RHOSLC, she has been able to amass a fortune.
At the time of her sentencing, she had an estimated net worth of $3million, according to several online reports.
At this time, it is unclear how her restitution payments will affect her worth.
Sharrieff is said to have a net worth of roughly $1.5million.
