Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson has found herself at the center of a social media maelstrom after a video of her endorsing the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo State went viral.
The video, which surfaced online on September 13, 2024, shows Johnson rallying support for Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC’s gubernatorial candidate.
The actress is seen standing on a campaign vehicle, urging a crowd in Ward 6, Irruekpen, Esan West LGA to vote for Okpebholo.

The video quickly stirred controversy and led to a wave of disapproval from Nigerians. Many users on X (formerly Twitter) voiced their anger over Mercy Johnson’s public support for the ruling party.
Some criticized her for allegedly using her celebrity status to influence voters, while others accused her of being disconnected from the struggles of ordinary citizens.
One X user expressed frustration, writing, “Mercy Johnson is using her fame to drag many people to vote for APC. Next week, she will come and tell us eggs are now costly.”
Another user commented, “People are just defending their source of income. No single love for the country.”

Others took a more general jab at politicians, adding, “That video by Mercy Johnson will make you understand that politicians don’t really care about us.
As long as they and their families aren’t facing hardship, they’ll keep pushing the agenda that they are the best candidates.
