Charlotte Osei blasts Gabby Otchere-Darko: ‘Stop dragging me into your nonsense

Charlotte Osei, the former Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), has lashed out at Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko for dragging her into a heated political dispute.

The controversy revolves around the property housing Asaase Broadcasting Company Limited and a dispute with MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Gabby, a cousin of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, while reacting to a statement by the Lands Commission, which indicated that the property housing Asaase is not a subject of a suit filed by the Judicial Service of Ghana against the government as indicated by Ablakwa, smeared the immediate past chairperson of the EC.

He said that Ablakwa has intentionally turned a blind eye to properties sold by governments of his party, in his ‘state capture’ exposés, including a property opposite Asaase Radio which he said was “sold off and now peacefully occupied by the immediate former chairperson of the Electoral Commission.”

Gabby suggested that a public servant was evicted from that property to make way for Charlotte Osei.

Charlotte Osei did not take kindly to these accusations. In a fiery response posted on X (formerly Twitter) on September 11, 2024, she demanded that Gabby stop involving her in his disputes. “Stop dragging me into your personal battles and stop spreading lies,” Osei wrote.

She clarified that she had never received any benefits from public lands. According to Osei, she bought the property in question through a legitimate commercial transaction in 2007.

“It’s quite something to complain about being misrepresented while you’re spreading falsehoods about others,” Osei continued. “If you have issues with Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, take legal action against him. I’m ready to do the same if necessary.”

Osei emphasized that her involvement in the property issue was unwarranted and unfair. “I have NEVER benefited from state lands. I purchased my property legally years before my EC role. Stop the lies, Gabby, and stop involving me in your nonsense,” she said.
