Ghana Police arrest man with GH¢50,000 bounty after threatening public officials

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended Ibrahim Mohammed, a man who gained notoriety for threatening several public officials.

Mohammed, who goes by the alias Commander Kanawu, was arrested after a video of him making these threats went viral.

He had been declared wanted on September 9, 2024, and the police had placed a GH¢50,000 bounty on his head.

According to the police, Mohammed is now in custody and will go through the legal process as required.

The threats he made included plans to shoot high-profile figures such as the Inspector General of Police and the leadership of the Electoral Commission.

Mohammed had publicly accused the Ghana Police Service of secretly recruiting New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters into the Kumasi police force to stir up trouble before the upcoming elections.

He also claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was setting up its own militia to counter the NPP’s moves.

Additionally, he alleged that Interior Minister Henry Quartey was behind this alleged recruitment scheme and vowed to attack the minister at his home.

Mohammed also threatened to target Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputy, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, if they were involved in any election rigging on behalf of the NPP.
