Scenes from EC as NDC, NPP, and others file nominations for 2024 presidential election (Video)

The head office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) was abuzz with activity on Monday, September 9, 2024, as the nomination period for the 2024 presidential election officially began.

The first day saw a parade of eight presidential hopefuls and their enthusiastic supporters making their way to the EC office to submit their nomination papers.

The nomination process is scheduled to continue until Friday, September 13, 2024, but the initial day was already packed with notable political figures.

Among the key aspirants was Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as well as NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, and National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) also made headlines as Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party chairman, filed the nomination for their flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama. Asiedu Nketiah was joined by the party’s General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, Director for Elections and IT Dr. Omane Boamah, and other key figures from the NDC.

The day wasn’t just about the big parties; several other aspirants also made their presence known. Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar) of the New Force Movement, Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberty Party of Ghana (LPG), and Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC) were among those who filed their nominations.

Also making their move on the first day were Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), independent candidate Samuel Apea-Danquah, and another independent contender, George Twum-Barimah-Adu.
