Chief orders burning of excavators at galamsey site to combat illegal mining (Video)

In a bold and decisive move against illegal mining (galamsey), Osaberima Atta Appeakrong Agyei II, the Chief of Akyem Anyinasin in the Eastern Region’s Abuakwa North constituency, has taken a stand by ordering the burning of two excavators used by illegal miners.

This dramatic action is part of his effort to curb the illegal mining activities that have been damaging the area’s lands and water bodies.

The order to destroy the excavators was captured in a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by SIKAOFFICIAL. In the video, the chief can be seen surrounded by local residents as he explains his motivations for this drastic measure.

Chief Appeakrong passionately addresses the situation, saying, “President Akufo-Addo, who is from Akyem, risked his leadership in fighting galamsey because of the terrible state of our lands and water due to illegal mining. As someone who cares deeply about the environment, he strongly opposes these activities.”

He continues, “I am the firstborn of Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin of Anyinasin. What Okyehene dislikes, I also dislike. What President Akufo-Addo dislikes, I share that sentiment. The same goes for Otumfuo, the Ashanti King, and the chief of Bono Ahafo. What the people of Anyinasin dislike, I also stand against.”

Chief Appeakrong emphasizes that he has previously warned the illegal miners on three occasions to stop their operations.

Asserting his authority and representing prominent figures like Okyehene and President Akufo-Addo, he concludes, “I command that the excavators be burned.”
