Berla Mundi’s two ‘tough’ questions for Bawumia that went viral online (Video)

Ghanaian media personality Berla Mundi drew significant public attention with her pointed questions to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at a press event on August 25, 2024.

At the press conference, Berla Mundi asked Dr. Bawumia two significant questions that many Ghanaians were eager to hear.

Her first question was about the eight individuals who lost their lives during the 2020 elections. She told Bawumia that addressing these deaths might have helped improve their standing with Ghanaians.

“It was fact-checked and confirmed that some eight people died during the 2020 general elections. So far, I’m not sure either you or the president has said anything about it. I have spoken to a lot of analysts, and they are saying that maybe if you had addressed this very early on in your campaign, you might have had a greater chance than you have now,” she emphasized.

Her second question focused on the current state of living conditions in Ghana. Berla asked if Bawumia agreed that he should apologize for the poor economic conditions in the country, especially given the promises made and the current performance.

“Would you agree when Ghanaians say you should apologize for where we are at the moment? Especially looking at the promises you have made and the performances not matching those promises,” she asked with a serious tone.

In response to Berla’s questions, Dr. Bawumia chose to highlight his administration’s achievements rather than directly addressing the issues raised. He mentioned the introduction of the national ID system, student loans through the Ghana Card, advancements in digital systems, and the use of drones for delivering medical supplies.

“It’s very interesting when you look at the work we have done… For the first time since independence, we have a national ID system. We have drones delivering medical supplies and saving lives,” he said.

Regarding the deaths from the 2020 elections, Bawumia stated, “I’m not quite sure whether the president has commented or not, but anytime we lose a life in any circumstance, it’s usually a very sad event. It’s a sad occurrence for people to have died in elections as a result of conflict. It is something that law enforcement is dealing with, but I’m not sure of the details.”

Netizens have praised Berla Mundi for asking the tough questions that many journalists avoid. However, they criticized Dr. Bawumia for not giving clear answers and for appearing to fumble with his responses.
