Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown is currently seeking to have a long-standing visa ban lifted by the United States Embassy in Accra.
This appeal comes after McBrown was deported from the U.S. over 20 years ago for attempting to enter the country with a fake passport.
In a revealing interview on Starr FM, McBrown explained that the incident took place in the early 2000s when her uncle, Papa Kofi McBrown, arranged the trip to help her pursue career opportunities in the U.S. due to her talents.

Nana Ama McBrown confessed she had not attended a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy and was unaware of the severity of the situation until she was arrested upon arrival in the U.S.
“He gave me the documents to travel,” she said. “The passport looked a lot like me. I was around 22 or 23 years old, in 1999 or 2000. When I arrived, I was arrested and deported. It was a painful experience, and I didn’t realize they had used a fake passport. I went alone, and now that my uncle has passed away, I am speaking out.”
McBrown is now hoping to resolve her past mistakes and is appealing to the U.S. Embassy to review her case. “I am asking them to reconsider and look at my current records. I am not a bad person. I’ve made mistakes but I want to correct them,” McBrown said earnestly.
In her interview, Nana Ama McBrown also touched on the anxiety many Ghanaians face when applying for visas, which sometimes leads to dishonesty.
