Stonebwoy Slams Grammys for Ignoring His Role in Ghanaian Hiplife History

Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy has expressed frustration on social media over the Recording Academy’s omission of his name from their August 20, 2024 article, “10 Artists Essential to Ghanaian Hiplife.

The article, featured on the Recording Academy’s website, highlights influential figures in the Ghanaian hiplife music scene.

It includes prominent names such as Reggie Rockstone, often dubbed the “Godfather of Hiplife,” along with Lord Kenya, Obrafour, VIP, Tinny, Mzbel, Sarkodie, the Asakaa Boys, Black Sherif, and King Paluta.

Stonebwoy argued that his name was left off the list despite his significant contributions to the music industry, backing his claim with a Grammy certificate.

On social media, Stonebwoy shared his frustrations with the author of The Recording Academy’s article, saying:

“Whoever wrote this article is interestingly missing THE NAME. Do Due Diligence before you publish half-dozed articles aiming to capture the true image of the State of the Ghanaian Sound.”

Reactions to Stonebwoy’s criticism have been mixed. Supporters praised his call for recognition. One X user responded, “You can’t be left out though… correction dey hia momm,”

while another user expressed a hopeful message, saying, “Bobo, God is preparing a surprise for you instead. They left you out, expect a Grammy Award this year. If indeed I’m a seer and I’ve a tongue of fire it shall come to pass.”

Conversely, some users criticized Stonebwoy for what they perceived as a desperate need for recognition. User @metamorfos28 remarked, “This kind of desperate need for recognition is actually beneath you. For a second, I thought this was a fan account, till I realized it’s actually you.”

Another user, @1BongoIdeas, suggested that Stonebwoy’s focus on awards and recognition was troubling, stating, “No wonder you’re still fighting for 2019 VGMA AOTY. Your obsession with awards and recognition stinks bro. Maybe we need to understand Shatta Wale when he calls you out. Efo with the pains.”
