Ignatius Amoah, Chief of Staff of UMaT SRC, has updated on the recent electrocution incident at the Black Sherif concert on campus.
Amoah clarified that only one female fan was affected, contrary to some reports suggesting that two people were involved in the incident.
He confirmed that the fan, who is not a student of UMaT, was promptly taken to the hospital and is now receiving treatment.
In an interview with Peace FM on August 20, 2024, Amoah shared that the SRC has initiated an investigation to understand how the electrocution happened during the event.
“It was one female fan who was electrocuted, but we took her to the hospital, and she is now recovering well. Our president has started measures to look into the technical issues that caused the electrocution and fix them. The investigation is ongoing,” Amoah told Kwasi Aboagye during the interview.

Background of the Incident
The electrocution happened while Black Sherif was performing at UMaT in Tarkwa. Reports suggest that inadequate safety measures and poor event planning may have contributed to the incident.
During his performance, Black Sherif noticed two fans who were electrocuted, with one being in critical condition. Upset by the situation, he decided to end his performance abruptly and leave the venue.
A viral video shows Black Sherif walking directly to his car, despite requests from fans and organizers for him to stay and continue.
This unexpected exit left many fans, who had waited six hours for the show, worried and disappointed.
However, the UMaT SRC has reassured the public that the fan is now in stable condition and that efforts are underway to address the safety issues that led to the incident.
