Kwabena Boateng, the Assemblyman for Kyekyerwere East and a local cocoa buyer, has been arrested following a shooting incident at his cocoa-buying shop in Dunkwa Kyekyerwere, Central Region.
The shooting resulted in the deaths of two individuals: a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old.
On the morning of Wednesday, August 21, 2024, around 2 a.m., Kwabena Boateng was reportedly keeping watch over his cocoa shop after recent thefts, including a previous loss of 35 bags of cocoa.

Boateng observed three individuals attempting to break into the shop. He said that when the suspects noticed his presence, they tried to flee. In response, Boateng fired his weapon, hitting two of the suspects.
One of the victims died at the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital but died before arrival.
According to EDHUB, the assemblyman has been taken into police custody and is currently assisting with the investigation into the shooting.
The incident has drawn significant attention, especially after footage of the scene was shared on social media.
The video shows the victims’ bodies on the ground, with some local residents gathered around, visibly upset and reacting to the situation.
In the background of the video, a voice believed to be Kwabena Boateng’s can be heard explaining how the shooting occurred.
