Frank Farian was a German singer and record producer who founded the 1970s disco-pop group Boney M., the Latin pop band No Mercy, and the pop band Milli Vanilli.
He frequently created vocal groups in which the publicised members merely lip-synced to songs sung by session members.
Farian owned the record label MCI and several subsidiaries. Over the course of his career, Farian sold over 850 million records and earned 800 gold and platinum certifications.

Farian died in Miami on 23 January 2024, at the age of 82. Although his cause of death was not immediately revealed, Farian said that he had gone through heart valve replacement surgery in 2022.
He also told Bild in Nov. 2023, “My heart valve works wonderfully. Mick Jagger also received exactly the same heart valve. I have a good pig in me! And I’m very grateful for that.”
However, per U.K. newspaper The Evening Standard, Farian’s condition had deteriorated following the procedure — he had lost a lot of weight and was left needing to use a wheelchair.
Meanwhile, Farian’s former partner Ingrid “Milli” Segieth, 69, told Bild that she had visited Farian in Miami over the New Year.
“Frank was physically very weak, but was still full of energy,” she said. “He was still sitting in the recording studio all day, working on new music.”
