Nigerian rapper, Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips has died at the age of 28.
The rapper’s management announced his death on his official Instagram page on Wednesday.
Who was Rapper Oladips
Oladips is a Nigerian rapper and songwriter who was born on March 24, 1995 in Ogun State.
He started his music career in 2012 and gained recognition after winning D’banj’s “King is here” competition in 2015.
He signed with Edge Records, a label owned by Reminisce, but left in 2019 due to some issues.
He has released several songs, such as Hallelujah, Zaddy, Consistency, and others.
Oladips was a talented musician who rapped about political issues like the ENDSars protests against police brutality.
He also touched on the subject of mental health and depression in his songs.
“His story telling rap was top notch” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Big Brother Naija contestant Hermes Iyele expressed his shock over the young rapper’s death saying: “May God grant the family the grace to carry this grief.”
The rapper was due to release his new album titled SUPERHERO ÀDÚGBÒ (The Memoir) on Thursday. His last single was called Die Young.
He rose to fame when he won a rap competition called the King is Here hosted by Nigerian music giant DBanj in 2015.
Oladips’s death comes a few months after another popular musician, Mohbad, died in September, leading to countrywide protests.
Rapper Oladips cause of death
In a statement released on his Instagram page on Wednesday, November 15, Oladips’ management revealed he died on Tuesday, November 14.
The cause of death is unclear but the post read he “kept his battles within himself” for two years.
Extract from the post read: “We are saddened to inform the general public that Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji aka Oladips has passed away yesterday November 14. For over two years he has kept his battles within himself, his body is now with his family.”
