He scored 47 goals in 108 appearances for them before moving to Chieti in Serie C. He impressed with his skills and goals, and earned a transfer to Perugia in Serie A in 2001.

There, he was converted into a left wing-back by coach Serse Cosmi, and became a regular starter for the team. He also made his debut for the Italian national team in 2003.
