Jon Trimmer was a New Zealand ballet dancer. He performed with the New Zealand Ballet Company in 1958 and 1959 before leaving New Zealand to study and perform in the United Kingdom.

He and his wife, Jacqui Trimmer, also a ballet dancer, returned to dance in New Zealand over the years, as well as dancing in the Australian and Royal Danish Ballets.

Trimmer was born Jon “Jonty” Charles Trimmer on 18 September 1939 in Petone, New Zealand. He started learning ballet at age 12 at his sister’s ballet school.

He had a long and illustrious career that spanned over six decades and involved performing with some of the world’s most famous ballet companies and stars.

He appeared in several films and television shows, such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Undercover Gang, and Fireraiser.

He was nominated for the best actor award for his role in Fireraiser in 1986.

He received many honours and awards for his services to ballet, such as the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1974, the Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (KNZM) in 1999, the Scroll of Honour from the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand in 1991, and the Wellingtonian of the Year award in 2009.

On 26 October 2023, Jon Trimmer died at the age of 84. Trimmer was a remarkable artist who left a lasting legacy in the world of ballet and beyond.
