Ryan Mallett is a son of Jim and Debbie Mallett, and grew up in Texas where he went to the Texas High School in Texarkana. Mallett played football there, and in his rookie year, he recorded 152 completions on 316 passes for 2,307 yards, 18 touchdowns, and ten interceptions. In his junior year, Mallett had 133 completed passes out of 221 attempts for 2,219 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
He was fantastic in his senior year, with 204 completions from 321 attempts for 3,353 yards, 33 touchdowns, and only three intercepted passes.
