Former college football player Ray Lewis III has tragically died at the age of 28.

Lewis III was the son of Hall of Fame NFL linebacker Ray Lewis – and he played for the Miami Hurricanes, Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and Virginia Union Panthers during his college career.

Lewis’ younger brother, Rahsaan Lewis, posted about his sibling’s death Thursday on Instagram. TMZ Sports also confirmed the news.

Who was Ray Lewis III ?

Born on June 4, 1995, Ray Lewis III was a college football player and the eldest son of Hall of Fame NFL linebacker Ray Lewis.

He had five other siblings: brothers Rayshad, Ralin and Rahsaan, and sisters Diaymon and Kailin.

During his college football career, Ray III played for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Virginia Union Panthers.

He became the second member of his family to play for the Miami Hurricanes; his father Ray Jr. was on the roster from 1993 to 1995.

After he graduated from Virginia Union University, he went a different path professionally.

While residing in Oklahoma, Ray became a registered behavior technician for children with disabilities.

Regarding his upbringing with his Super Bowl-winning father, he told Gillette News: “I was born into a situation that’s perceived by everyone the way they want to perceive it.

“I didn’t have my own identity and I still don’t. It’s always just, ‘Son of Hall of Famer Ray Lewis.’

“I have my own identity now. I’m not trying to fill his shoes now. I have a different size and I have my own shoes to fill.”

Ray Lewis III died on Thursday June 15, aged 28.

Details of his tragic passing were not immediately available.

Lewis III’s younger brother, Rahsaan, shared the news in a heartbreaking tribute on social media on Thursday afternoon saying, “Really can’t believe I’m even typing this but RIP big brother.

“A true angel I pray your at peace now because IK how much you was rlly hurtin. I don’t and won’t ever have the words man cuz this pain right here….I love you I love you I love you.”

He added … “Your niece gone miss you but she will hear about u over and over just watch over us all big bruh be our guardian I promise I’ll make you smile and proud.”

“Ray was a tremendous young man who played with the spirit of a lion,” Mark James, Lewis’s coach at VUU, told the Baltimore Sun.

“He was a great asset to the Virginia Union family. He will always be a Panther. May God bless his family.”
