Jason Watkins biography
English actor, Jason Watkins was born on October 28th, 1962 in Windsor Road, Albrighton, Shropshire in the United Kingdom.
He was born to Alan Watkins and Avis Watkins. He lived in Shropshire until the age of seven, when his parents moved to Wolverhampton.
His mother was a teacher at Albrighton’s primary school, while his father Alan worked as a metallurgist at Marston’s Brewery in Wolverhampton.

He attributes his introduction to comedy to clowning lessons he received from mime artist and Vision On broadcaster Ben Benison while attending Bridgnorth.
Jason Watkins career
After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art[4], he made a name for himself as a theatrical performer. He belongs to the National Theatre ensemble. For his work in A Servant For Two Masters, he received a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award nomination in 2001 (2000 season) for Best Supporting Actor.
His other theater credits include A Laughing Matter (by April De Angelis) at the Liverpool Playhouse in 2003, Philistines and Landscape with Weapon (both by Joe Penhall) at the National Theatre in London, and Rafts and Dreams at the Royal Court Theatre.
The leading vampire William Herrick in Being Human, the criminal Jason Buliegh in Conviction, Bradley Stainer in Funland, and the dog-walking crime witness Francis Cross in Five Days are some of Watkins’ more notable television appearances.
He also portrayed Oswald Cooper in the Lewis episode “The Great and the Good,” Plornish in the BBC’s 2008 production of Little Dorrit, and Cabbage Patterson in the BBC’s Lark Rise to Candleford adaption.

Jason Watkins appeared as Colin Merric, Gene Hunt’s errant lawyer, in episode seven of the second season of Life on Mars. He portrayed the innovative radiologist Ernest Wilson in the BBC pilot Casualty 1906 in 2006. He appeared as Sir Christopher Hatton in the four-part BBC drama The Virgin Queen in 2006.
He later appeared as Peter Bishop, the proprietor of Hoyti Toyti, an antique store with a focus on toys, in the second season of the BBC sitcom Psychoville. He also starred in Victoria Wood’s television movie Housewife, 49 as Doctor Roger Brierley.
He has additionally made an appearance as Gavin, the store manager, in the Sky One comedy Trollied since 2011. He began acting in the early months of 2012, appearing in the BBC drama Prisoners’ Wives, Dirk Gently as Detective Gilks, and Twenty Twelve as a slick Church of England PR man.
He made an appearance in Neil Gaiman’s Doctor Who novella Nightmare in Silver, which featured the Cybermen in their current form, on May 11, 2013. He performed the role of an anesthetist in The Wrong Mans in 2013.
He played Simon Harwood in the BBC comedy series W1A in 2014. 2015 saw the release of a second season, and 2017 saw the release of a third. He portrayed the titular character in the 2014 two-part ITV drama The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies, which focused on the initial, blameless suspect in the 2010 slaying of Joanna Yeates. For this portrayal, he received the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor.
In the four-part ITV drama The Secret from 2016, he portrayed Pastor Hansford. He played Malcolm Turner in the BBC sitcom series Love, Nina and had two appearances in The Hollow Crown.

Jason Watkins played Tony Michaels in an episode of Friday Night Dinner, presented the Channel 4 documentary series The Job Interview, and played Mr. Humphries in the BBC adaptation of Are You Being Served?
In the BBC One series Taboo from 2017, Watkins portrayed Solomon Coop, the Prince Regent’s (later George IV’s) personal secretary. Watkins appeared in the third episode of the BBC’s production of the Evelyn Waugh novel Decline and Fall as Wilfred Lucas-Dockery, the prison’s governor. This episode was also broadcast on BBC One.
In 2017, he played Simon in the ITV drama Safe House’s second season. In 2018, he portrayed Emlyn Hooson in Russell T. Davies’ drama A Very English Scandal and Roger in the BBC sitcom Hold the Sunset.
Jason Watkins voiced Captain Orchis in the BBC production of Watership Down and as Prime Minister Harold Wilson in the third season of the Netflix drama The Crown.
Since the year 2020, he has played the title character of DS Dodds in the television series McDonald & Dodds. In the television show SAS: Rogue Heroes from 2022, Watkins played Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister.
