Paul O’Grady was born Paul James O’Grady. on June 14, 1955, in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. He was the youngest of seven children and was raised in a Roman Catholic household.

O’Grady’s career began in the late 1970s when he started performing as a drag queen under the stage name Lily Savage. He quickly gained a following and became a regular performer at venues across the UK. In 1989, he won the prestigious Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which helped to launch his career in television.
O’Grady’s first major television role was as a presenter on the daytime show “The Big Breakfast” in the early 1990s. He quickly became known for his irreverent humor and larger-than-life personality, and he soon became one of the most popular presenters on British television.
In 2004, O’Grady launched his own chat show, “The Paul O’Grady Show,” which aired on ITV.
