Audrey Hale, 28, was transgender and identified as a man. The police chief working on the case discovered that Hale was a former student at the Nashville Christian School that he had attacked.
Surprisingly, the shooter, Nashville resident Audrey Hale had no criminal offense to his name.

According to eyewitnesses and the authorities, Audrey Hale had some resentment for having to attend that school which played a role in his decision to open fire at The Covenant School.
“There’s some belief that there was some resentment for having to go to that school,” Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake told Lester Holt of NBC News.
The authorities revealed that the attack was not an impulsive decision, and the shooter carefully planned it over a period of months with detailed maps and surveillance.
Covenant’s head of school, Katherine Koonce, 60, was among those killed. The shooter entered the school by breaking down a locked gate by shooting at it.
Audrey Hale’s plans were written in a detailed manifesto that local and federal investigators are currently studying.
The police chief said they are investigating the role of the shooter’s gender in the attack.
They believe that identifying as a transgender person might have given rise to feelings of resentment and hatred towards the Christian school.
Former school headmaster Bill Campbell said that he remembered Hale as a third-grader in 2005 and fourth-grader in 2006, citing yearbooks he keeps.
“It’s just an absolute tragedy what’s happened by the former student and what she did to the teachers and students,” Campbell said.

The school administrator from the time when Hale was a student said that she was just like other students.
There was nothing unusual or extraordinary about her presence; she was loved and appreciated just as much as the other students.
The shooter came to the school with two AR-style weapons and a handgun. Hale shot whoever came into his line of fire.
The six people who lost their lives in this tragic accident include three nine-year-old students and three staff members.
Two out of three of the shooter’s weapons were obtained legally in Nashville, said the police chief.
Thankfully, before things could get much worse, Hale was confronted by five police officers who timely opened fire at him. Hale was ultimately shot and killed by the officers.
The authorities said Hale’s writings also indicated that The Covenant School wasn’t the killer’s only target.
According to the shooter’s manifesto, more shootings would occur at different locations. Officers prevented more deaths thanks to their fast work, Nashville Mayor John Cooper said.
The three students who were killed in this shooting were identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney.
Substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 61, head of school Katherine Koonce, 60, and custodian Mike Hill, 61, were also amongst those who were killed.
Cops said Audrey Hale was transgender, although they haven’t specified further details, and referred to her as a woman.
Hale was born female, but a LinkedIn profile believed to be hers uses he/him pronouns, suggesting Hale was living as a man.
